There are a few people I'm familiar with that treat the knife and the stick as nearly identical.
The movement patterns, sure. The fact that it's merely and extension of your hand, sure. But the reality of the thing is that they are two entirely different tools with polar opposite uses. The stick is a very good intermediate force option that delivers highly effective striking capability while also being more than capable of enhancing any joint locking maneuvers. The knife is very much a deadly force option and is really suited to cutting and thrusting, though certain single-edged blades do allow for use similar to an impact weapon, either striking or for enhancing joint locks, by using the spine of the blade. I know what you're thinking...
You read that title line and said: "This bald headed mug has done up and lost his damn mind! Ain't no way that can happen..." Well... If I lost my mind, it was probably a few minutes after birth because I've been kinda off for as long as I remember. Yes... Way... It can happen. There is a sense of fair play in this world, particularly here in the States where so many people have came up participating in various games and the like, everything from checkers to team sports, that emphasize playing fair and always by a very very strict code of rules and ethics... This mindset has also found it's way into the self defense community.
Folks, the fact of the matter remains that in a self-protection scenario, there are only two sides... the criminal and the victim. Make no mistake, the criminal has no rules governing what they do and they will most certainly not play fairly. Why on Earth would you feel the need to play fair back? |
